Ford GT surpasses 7,000 orders

The new Ford GT supercar has received over 7,000 applications, just a week after its makers officially began taking submissions.

Ford’s new GT has garnered a lot of attention since it was first revealed in early 2015, during the Detroit Motor Show. This new model is the second-generation of the GT supercar and, like its predecessor, its design and performance is inspired by Ford’s legendary Le Mans-winning race car, the GT40.

GT proves an online hit

On the same day Ford began taking on applications for its new GT, the manufacturer also released its online configurator, allowing anyone to choose how they’d customise their own GT whether they could realistically own one or not.

The reveal that over 7,000 applications have been received for its new GT came through analysis of Ford Performance’s social media channels. Ford, however, cannot reveal the spread of countries the applications originate from, nor how many UK orders have been received.

Production and performance

Production of the new Ford GT will be limited to just 250 units per year, and reports indicate fewer than 20 will reach Britain annually.

The new Ford GT boasts a 3.5-litre Ecoboost twin-turbo V6 petrol engine that’ll produce close to 600bhp.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed but the new GT will reportedly start from just under £400,000. Production of the Ford supercar is expected to start later this year with first deliveries taking place near the end of 2016.
