Ford Mustang right-hand drive production starts

The Ford Mustang in right-hand drive has made its first public appearance in Britain, as production of this configuration of the iconic muscle car commences.

During last weekend’s Goodwood Revival, a historic motor racing festival, a new Mustang in right-hand drive specification went on display on the Ford stand at the show.

The Ford Mustang is one of the most popular sports car names in the world and has sold over nine million examples in its 50-plus year history. However, the vast majority of sales up until now have taken place in America.

The new Mustang, however, is the first to be sold in markets around the globe, including Europe. It will reach out to over 100 markets internationally in fact. It’s also the first Mustang to be offered in right-hand drive.

Ford has now confirmed that production of right-hand drive models have started at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.

Since January it’s estimated nearly 2,000 orders have been placed in Britain for a new Ford Mustang. The earliest customer deliveries will reportedly take place this November. For some customers, however, the wait will be much longer.

Though the Ford Mustang is still available to order now, online reports indicate that anyone who does so now will have to wait at least 12 months to receive their muscle car.

Pricing for the new Ford Mustang starts at £28,995 when using the 310bhp 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, or from £32,995 when using the 5.0-litre V8. It is available in both fastback and convertible body styles.
