Further details have been unveiled on the eagerly awaited new SUV.

Ford has unveiled the name of its eagerly-awaited new electric SUV – confirming that it will in fact be badged as a Mustang.

The new electric SUV to this point has been labelled as “Mustang-inspired”, but whether or not it would actually be badged with the name of Ford’s iconic muscle car was unknown.

However, ahead of the model’s debut at the LA Auto Show, Ford has confirmed that the new electric SUV will be called the ‘Mustang Mach-E’.

While the model has only been teased so far, images of the model have leaked on Ford’s US configurator – showing that the model will feature the same rear lights as the standard Mustang, along with a sloping coupe-like look – completely different from every other Ford SUV currently available.

Leaked interior pictures also show that the car will have a cabin looking similar to that of a Tesla – featuring a large touchscreen display and few traditional buttons.

Ford has previously said that the model will be able to travel 370 miles on a single charge, though somewhere closer to 300 miles is more likely.

Pre-orders will open immediately after the model’s unveil, with buyer’s invited to make a Ford account in advance. Once it’s on the website, potential customers can choose their preferred Ford dealer, then enter card details and their address to process the pre-order. Configurations will be finalised next year when official order books open.

The new Mustang Mach-E will be unveiled on November 18, with Idris Elba also playing a key part in the model’s unveiling ahead of the 2019 LA Auto Show.
