Ford reveals new limited-edition Ranger Thunder pick-up

The new version brings cool styling details and additional equipment

Ford has revealed a new special-edition version of its popular pick-up – the Ranger Thunder.

It revives a nameplate found on previous generations of this pick-up, and serves as a new limited-run version of Europe’s most popular truck.

All versions come painted in Sea Grey with red highlights on the grille and sports hoop. It also gains cool 3D ‘Thunder’ badging on the side, new 18-inch alloy wheels, and a host of black styling cues – including for the grille, rear bumper and fog light surround. Elsewhere the LED headlights and rear lights have darkened lenses.

On the inside, the Thunder comes with leather upholstery, with the red accent theme continuing thanks to the bright stitching on the seats, instrument panel and floor mats.

The new Thunder is only available with a punchy 210bhp 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, which is mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Just 1,400 Ranger Thunders will be coming to the UK, out of a total production run of 4,500 across Europe.

Aside from the Raptor version, the special-edition Thunder model sits at the top of the line-up, and just above the popular Wildtrak version in terms of standard kit.

Hans Schep, general manager of Ford Commercial Vehicles Europe, said: “With an edgier look for customers who aren’t afraid to be noticed, the new Ranger Thunder will be an unmistakeable presence.

“This capable, comfortable and stylish addition to Europe’s best-selling pick-up range is as tough and versatile as it is charismatic.”

The new special edition is available to order now, with prices starting from £32,965, excluding VAT. First deliveries are expected in late summer.
