Ford to reveal electrified Transit models this month

To be unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle show in Hannover later this month, the Transit Custom PHEV and Transit mHEV will be shown for the first time.

Ford has announced that it will be showing two electrified versions of the Transit at the IAA Commercial Vehicle show.

Taking place later this month, the show is hosted in the German city of Hannover from September 20 to 27 and will be the first time the new Transit is shown.

The new version of the renowned van will be available with a range of upgraded 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engines, with Ford also giving the Transit a mild-hybrid setup with a manual transmission – a first for the segment.

For the mild-hybrid, Ford has said fuel efficiency will be greatly improved, particularly in start/stop urban traffic.

The new Transit will also come with an increased payload limit, built-in connectivity and advanced driver assistance systems, as well as a refreshed design both inside and out.

Ford will also be giving the Transit Custom PHEV its public debut, which employs a 1.0-litre petrol engine alongside an electric motor that can offer 31 miles of all-electric driving. The EcoBoost engine acts mostly as a range extender as it charges the liquid lithium-ion batteries that are built into the load floor.

The production version of the Transit Custom PHEV also comes with a new interior design that includes PHEV-specific information screens.

Both of these electrified models will go on sale in 2019.
