Ford Tourneo Connect gets improved efficiency and tech

Ford is updating its Tourneo Connect MPV with a new and more frugal diesel engine and new onboard tech features. The changes apply to both the five-seater Tourneo Connect and seven-seater Grand Tourneo Connect. The refreshed range will go on sale this summer.

The new engine is a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel unit, which replaces the outgoing 1.6-litre engine in response to upcoming Euro 6 emission regulations. This new engine produces 99bhp or 118bhp and is hooked up either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Powershift automatic gearbox. The Powershift is available for the 118bhp diesel and is now also available for the Titanium trim for the first time.

With the new diesel at its disposal, the Tourneo Connect can return up to 65.7mpg combined and emits 111g/km.

The five-seater version of the Tourneo Connect is also available with a 99bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine with stop-start technology as standard. It records a combined fuel economy of 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 129g/km.

New safety and luxury technology are introduced as standard to the Tourneo Connect range. The safety gadgets include Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot detector and Lane Keeping Alert and Aid.

The Tourneo Connect range now also features Ford’s SYNC 2 with sat-nav, voice control and a six-inch colour touchscreen. Also included now is MyKey which allows owners to programme a key that restricts top speed and the maximum volume of the audio system. It can even prevent drivers from deactivating onboard safety technologies and mute the audio system if the driver or passengers are not using their safety belt.
