Ford unveils new Transit emergency vehicle as it looks to rejoin UK ambulance market

The lightweight model has been developed alongside NHS Ambulance Trusts

Ford is set to reenter the ambulance market with its Transit that has been developed with NHS trusts and experts.

Based on the firm’s Transit chassis cab, the body and conversion is built in the UK by Ventari Group. Called Project Siren, the new ambulance is fully compliant and meets required specifications required.

Developed with NHS Ambulance Trusts, the model aims to improve patient treatment and make it easier for paramedics to use. A range of connected features are also introduced with the aim of reducing maintenance costs, while the lightweight design helps to reduce emissions associated with a larger vehicle.

Dr Graham Hoare, executive director of business transformation, and chairman of Ford of Britain, said: “Our exciting new lightweight ambulance is the result of listening to our customers, understanding their needs and finding innovative solutions to meet them

By collaborating with blue-light experts Venari Group for Project Siren, I’m confident that this new vehicle will redefine the blueprint for ambulances and help to transform the productivity of front line ambulance services in the UK.”

Set to be launched in the middle of 2021, the ambulance is currently being tested and validated at Ford’s proving grounds. The firm has also said that the model would also be compatible with an all-electric powertrain, which is useful given Ford’s E-Transit EV is set to arrive in 2022.
