Ford has announced a range of updates to its compact Transit Connect van, which improve efficiency and increase the payload.
The 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine has been tweaked to offer greater efficiency, and is the most economical model in its class – returning up to 55.3mpg, with CO2 emissions of 134g/km. It’s available with outputs of 74bhp or 118bhp, and also now gains low rolling resistance tyres to help improve efficiency further.
Ford has also made it even more practical by increasing the Connect’s payload by 79kg to 982kg. The firm says it’s achieved that by optimising the wheel and tyre configurations, while also removing the middle third seat, though the latter is still available on some versions.
A new top-spec Limited model has also been introduced to the line-up – offering something a bit more upmarket with its 16-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured mirrors and side mouldings. It also gains heated seats and automatic lights and wipers.
Hans Schep, general manager of commercial vehicles, Ford of Europe, said: “Transit Connect is already popular with fleets across Europe, and the latest enhancements make it even more compelling.
“Reducing emissions and fuel costs while improving payloads helps fleets transport more cargo or fit extra equipment while maintaining maximum efficiency.”
The updated Transit Connect range is available now, with examples set to arrive in dealers from the middle of November.
