Further details announced about 2021 Vauxhall Mokka

The new model is set to be lighter and sharper to drive

Vauxhall has announced further details about its upcoming 2021 Mokka X crossover, while further disguised images of the new car have also been shown.

The new Mokka is set to be much lighter and sharper to drive than its Mokka X predecessor, which was discontinued last year ready for this new model.

Alongside petrol and diesel versions, the new Mokka will also be available as an EV – featuring the same 50kWh battery pack that you’d find in the Corsa-e, which should allow for a range of around 200 miles.

Vauxhall says the new Mokka is up to 120kg lighter than before, despite being a very similar size. The firm is also promising a more sporting drive than before – even on the heavier electric Mokka-e, with Vauxhall saying that the low-positioned batteries lower the centre of gravity, which improves the drive.

The latest teaser images of the Mokka show it undergoing testing, with the latest phase being high-speed driving on German test tracks. It’s also being put through its paces on uneven surfaces to test the ride, which are said to replicate some of the trickiest road surfaces across Europe. Vauxhall is also aiming for improved sound-deadening on the new model, which was one of the weaknesses of the previous car.

While heavily camouflaged in the latest images, it looks as if the Mokka is set to adopt a sleeker and lower profile than its predecessor. The rear also looks very similar to the new Corsa, which it shares its CMP platform with.

The new Mokka is set to be unveiled later this year and will arrive in showrooms at the start of 2021.
