General Motors (GM) plans to expand its product portfolio with the introduction of the super compact and affordable E100, but the model will only be available in China.

The manufacturer’s Chinese brand – Baojun – recently announced the launch of its new mass-market EV, which is set to revolutionise the car industry in China.

E100 Interior

The car itself noticeably resembles the Smart ForTwo – a compact two-seater city car that hit the UK market back in the late nineties. However, Baojun have equipped their E100 with a lithium-ion battery which provides owners with a driving range of 96 miles per charge and a charging time of just over seven hours.

The car can reach a top speed of 62mph so it’s not exactly built for speed, but the vehicle’s sole purpose will be to accommodate daily commuters – not speed demons.

With a price equivalent to £4,084, the vehicle is super cheap therefore making it widely accessible and affordable to the mass-market. The E100 is a car which could potentially help propel China in to an all-electric future – a vital step for cleaning up the country’s air pollution.
