Groupe Renault post record sales for start of 2018

The group sold over 2.1 million vehicles across its brands, which also include Dacia and Alpine, which is up 9.8 per cent on last year.

Groupe Renault sold almost 2.1 million vehicles worldwide through the first six months of 2018, a record for the brand and 9.8 per cent up on the same period last year.

The group, which includes Dacia and Alpine in its structure, increased its global market share too, with its stake up by 0.2 per cent to 4.3 per cent.

Out of the 2,067,695 vehicles sold between January 1 and June 30, 1,378,583 were Renault and 378,095 were Dacia units.

For the European market, the group sold 1,078,718 – equating to an 11 per cent stake in the continent, up 0.2 per cent.

The Clio was the second best-selling vehicle in Europe over that six-month stretch, with the Captur and Scenic topping their respective segments as well.

Renault also continued its domination of the electric market as it posted a market share of 21.9 per cent and a sales increase of 11.6 per cent. The Kangoo Z.E. was the leading electric light commercial vehicle as it now has a 38.9 per cent share of the segment.

Dacia Duster

For Dacia, 281,225 units were sold in Europe – a half-year sales record – with many of those attributed to the new Duster and Sandero.

Thierry Koskas, Groupe Renault executive vice president for sales and marketing, said: “For the third consecutive year, we have set a new sales record, with nearly 2.1 million vehicles sold in the first half.

“In Europe, the group continues to gain market share, while internationally we are posting excellent performances, notably in Latin America, the Eurasia region and Africa.”
