Here’s a proper look at the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross

Mitsubishi has given us our first proper look at the new Eclipse Cross SUV via new images and details. The new car, which is set to make its first public appearance at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show next week, will reportedly launch in the UK in early 2018.

In Mitsubishi’s SUV line-up the new Eclipse Cross will sit in between the ASX crossover and the larger Outlander. Many of the design details, particularly at the front, are reminiscent of the latest Outlander but the Eclipse Cross has more of a coupe-esque profile.

Powertrains for the Eclipse Cross will include a mixture of front and four-wheel drive options featuring a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 2.2-litre turbodiesel.

Both the petrol and diesel units will reportedly be available with an eight-speed CVT automatic transmission. The 2.2-litre diesel has been used on other Mitsubishis before like the Outlander, but it’s believed it has been tuned to better suit the design and weight of the Eclipse.

The interior of the Eclipse Cross features an infotainment system with a tablet-like touchscreen. It is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps. The Mitsubishi’s cabin also features a head up display and rear seats which can split 60:40.

Although the Eclipse Cross will sit below it, the new SUV will reportedly have a higher starting pricing than the current Outlander, which starts from just under £25,000 at the moment.

Replacements for the Outlander and ASX are expected to arrive following the launch of the Eclipse Cross within the next few years.
