Here’s why the Geneva Motor Show is the best in the world

We’re on the eve of the 2018 Geneva Motor Show! With some incredible cars and concepts to be announced, here’s why it’s the best auto show in the world.

Every year, car manufacturers flock to the Swiss city of Geneva for the annual Motor Show that first took place all the way back in 1905.

This year’s 88th edition of the exhibition is jammed pack with the latest production cars and technology, and with almost 50 major car launches, 2018 is one of the most anticipated yet.

This year, it takes place from March 8 to 18, but the press get in early on March 6 and 7.

But why exactly is the Geneva Motor Show the most renowned motor show in the world, and why should you take a visit to GIMS 2018?

It’s the largest show of the year

Although there are multiple showcase motoring events throughout the year around the world, in places like Detroit, Tokyo and Paris – none can match the importance and overall scale of the Geneva Motor Show. The exhibition consistently marks the launches of many new and exciting concepts for an insight into the future, as well as the production cars to be released in the coming months. All the manufacturers navigate the year around this show, and if it has that much pull for them, it must be regarded as the largest and most important on the calendar.

Launches are plenty at Geneva

At this year’s show, there are supposedly 48 major launches to take in – which is more than any other annual motor show. Ranging from more mainstream brands like Suzuki and Hyundai, up to the Bugattis and Ferraris of the world, any and every manufacturer in between – all of them use Geneva as their platform to show off their latest and greatest. Few events even come close to that and that helps Geneva stand out more than most.

Futuristic concepts show the future of motoring

Although production cars are the main reason these exhibitions take place, it gives car designers the chance to let their hair down and make some truly mad creations that may or may not end up on the road. Many are used as inspiration for future production vehicles, but the majority of them have their moment in the sun and are then locked up in a warehouse somewhere to gather dust. You can find some of the maddest creations at motor shows, and Geneva is one of the best places to do that.

It showcases the latest vehicle technology

What manufacturers want to do at motor shows is showcase just how great and clever they are by showcasing the newest technology. The current trends are autonomous driving and electric driving, and with more and more car makers innovating in these segments, you really need to come and see for yourself exactly what each brand is up to.

You could find your next car there

With the amount of choice and model previews on show at Geneva, you could find your next purchase amongst the many stalls and stands at the Palexpo Exhibition centre. This year’s event has plenty of offerings for daily drivers that fit alongside the exotic exhibits, so if you go and take a look, you may fall in love with a new model that you can buy in the very near future.
