Here’s why you should take a 48-hour MINI test drive

MINI currently offers 48-hour test drives on all of its models. Here’s why you should take advantage and what you can gain from the experience.

Buying a new car can be an exciting time for all, as you’ll be able to get your hands on something that only you have driven and is exactly how you want it.

But sometimes you might have question as to how the model you want drives, how practical it is and if there are any second thoughts you’re having that need quashing.

To be able to get hold of the car you’re after for a short period of time can be a real eye-opener and can help you make the right decision.

Mini is one of a handful of companies that allows you to take a test vehicle away for 48 hours, and it provides more than enough time for you to get used to the vehicle.

But how should you spend the 48-hour test time and what should you gain from the experience?

What’s on offer?

Well it’s very simple. Select Mini dealers give you any model in the range to test drive for two days so that you can work out what it’s like day-to-day. You can choose from both version of the Hatch, the Convertible, the Countryman compact SUV and the Clubman estate – and from then on you can do as you like with it.

What should you do?

To make the most of your 48 hours, you should involve the car in your day-to-day activities, for example going shopping and taking a test commute to work if you use it on the weekend, so you can see exactly what it’s like during a normal drive.

You should also make time during the test period to go further afield, so that you can get a feel of how it is on a long journey and see whether it is comfortable and practical enough to take it away somewhere further afield. Especially if you’re using the Mini Countryman, try to take it off the beaten track and see if it copes as a lifestyle vehicle.

But you shouldn’t be afraid to push a car slightly out of its comfort zone and take it out of the car’s suited environment – for example, take either Hatch model out of an urban setting and into the countryside to see if it works well there as well.

What should you look for during your test drive?

The simple fact is that you should see if the car suits your style of driving, your lifestyle and if it’s practical enough for you. Although a car may look big enough for your needs in pictures and reviews, you will only get a true sense of how a car drives and works when you take it out on your own, so you can form your own opinions and not be influenced either way.
