Honda has announced that the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine fitted to the Civic range can now be teamed with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
This is the first time such a combination has been available on the Civic, with powertrain available on both the saloon and hatchback models.
Honda says that this engine/transmission combination can return 68.9mpg and 108g/km CO2 in the saloon – 109g/km CO2 for the hatchback.
Although the quoted miles per gallon figure is lower than the one for the six-speed manual alternative, the returns are still impressive, and the transmission is also capable of skipping gears depending on the throttle application and engine speed.
