Honda Civic Sport gets new 1.4-litre VTEC engine

Honda has announced the addition of a new 1.4-litre i-VTEC engine option for its Civic Sport model, which is priced from £18,360 and will go on sale next month.

The new motor now serves as the entry-level engine for the Civic range, slotting in below the existing 1.6-litre diesel and the 1.8-litre petrol engines in the Civic Sport line-up.

Specifically tuned to offer dynamic performance while reducing its environmental footprint, the new 1.4-litre engine has a power output of 99bhp, but with CO2 emissions of just 131g/km.

Sporty but economical

Philip Crossman, Honda UK’s managing director, said: “The smaller engine makes the Civic Sport more economical and more efficient and therefore a much more attractive proposition.”

Borrowing some of the aggressive styling cues of Honda’s mighty Civic Type R, the Civic Sport features a trim-exclusive colour-coded rear spoiler, along with 17-inch alloy wheels.

It also shares the same lower grille mesh as the Type R, along with a black roof lining for the cabin for a sportier and more rowdy appearance.
