Honda Civic Type R to cost under 30k

Honda has confirmed that prices for its new Type R hot hatch will start at just £29,995, undercutting its Volkswagen rival, the Golf R.

The Japanese brand’s new Civic powerhouse has teased the automotive industry for the last six months or so, with its cool interactive YouTube video in particular, receiving a lot of hype. At £29,995, the Type R is cheaper than the Volkswagen Golf R (£30,150) and is expected to be on par with the new Focus RS when Ford announces prices for the model.

Powering the Type R is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit producing a hefty 306bhp and reaching 62mph from a standing start in just 5.7 seconds. Above the standard Type R will sit the GT version. This will cost £32,295, £2,300 more than the standard model.

Honda promises the GT version will bring an array of added extras such as a Garmin navigation system, dusk sensing auto lights, lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. Performance figures for the Civic GT will be the same as for the Type R.

Ahead of its forecourt arrival in July, Honda has already started receiving orders for the new hot hatch. Head of Cars at Honda UK, Leon Brannan, said: “We are fully expecting a huge demand for the all new made in Britain Civic Type R and already have over 100 pre-orders in the order bank before our customers have even taken a test drive or seen the final production version.”
