A Honda dealership in Cumbria has promised to give away free cars to help victims of the recent flooding caused by Storm Desmond.

In a post on the dealer’s Facebook page, Kendal Honda announced that it’s planning to donate one of its trade-in cars each day in the run up to Christmas, starting with a 1999 Mercedes C-Class.

The post reads: “All of us here at Kendal Honda would like to offer our deepest sympathies to everyone in our fantastic area that has been affected by the recent storms and subsequent flooding.

“We have been racking our brains as to what we can do to help some of the families affected by this awful situation so close to Christmas and have decided the thing we have to hand and that lots of people may need at the moment are cars.

“So we would like to donate one of our trade cars each day to someone you know who lives in our local area and has been affected by the recent floods.”

Although they mightn’t be the newest models or in absolute perfect condition, the dealer has said that every car given away is safe to drive and will also come with 12 months MoT.

The dealership, which itself was nearly flooded, reported having had a huge response to the offer, with local people even offering to pay vehicle tax if the new owners can’t afford to.

In order to apply for one of the cars, people must have been affected by the flooding and leave their name as a comment under the dealer’s post, with new owners chosen at random.

Currently, there’s no timescale on the offer, though the dealership has stressed that it only has a limited number of trade cars left in stock.
