Honda electrified range: What’s available and what’s on the way?

The Japanese firm is gearing up to switch to become a predominantly electrified range

Most firms are gearing up to transition to electrified models in the coming years, but few are committing to it quite as early as Honda.

The Japanese firm, which is known for its innovation, is set to electrify its core range by 2022, which is an impressive effort and one many manufacturers won’t meet for at least a good few years later.

But what electrified Hondas – including EV and hybrid – are on the market today, and what can we expect in the next year or so? Let’s take a look…

Currently available

Honda Jazz

The Jazz was the first of Honda’s core nameplates to make the switch to being a hybrid-only model, with all versions of this practical supermini featuring a 1.5-litre petrol-electric setup. This is a model that’s all about functionality and low running costs, ensuring that it’s a very efficient choice.

The Jazz continues to be a small car with a ‘big car’ feel thanks to its tardis-like interior, while it also gets a very generous range of safety kit included for its affordable price. Alongside the standard model, buyers can also choose a Crosstar version, which brings more rugged SUV-like styling to the line-up.

Honda e

Honda is a brand known for doing things differently and one of the best showcases of this in recent years is the ‘e’ – the firm’s first electric car and one that prioritises fun and technology.

It’s a compact city-aimed EV, but gets all kinds of technology, including cameras that replace the door mirrors and a dashboard made up of five screens. With a zippy powertrain and rear-wheel-drive layout, it’s hugely enjoyable to drive, if slightly compromised by its 137-mile electric range.

Honda CR-V Hybrid

The CR-V is another key part of Honda’s range, with this spacious family SUV lending itself perfectly to electrification thanks to its relaxed nature. It’s currently sold alongside a regular petrol model, though the Hybrid – which is a self-charging setup – is definitely the pick of the line-up.

It retains the regular CR-V’s impressively roomy interior, along with an impressive list of equipment, particularly on higher-spec versions. It’s definitely the most practical of all of Honda’s current electrified models.

What’s on the way?

Honda HR-V

First up to join Honda’s electrified range will be the HR-V, which gets a stylish and sharp makeover as part of this latest generation. Though the model has already been revealed, you’ll have to wait until later in 2021 to get your hands on this mid-size SUV, which sits in a similar bracket to the Volkswagen T-Roc and Mazda CX-30.

The new model is also set to just be sold as a hybrid and will feature a broadly similar powertrain to that found in the Jazz, though with more power. It’s also going to be far roomier than its sibling, with spaciousness and safety set to be two of its key attributes.

Honda Civic

Possibly the best known Honda of them all, the Civic has been around for an impressive number of years, and by the time the new model arrives next year, it will have reached its 11th generation – more than just about any other car on sale today.

Details surrounding the new model are not yet clear (it’s only been revealed for the US market so far), though hybrids are likely to play a key part in the range. Whether it will be exclusively sold as a hybrid or not is not yet clear, though.
