Hyundai Tucson gets faster and greener 139bhp 1.7-litre DCT auto

The Hyundai Tucson is now available with a high-output 1.7-litre diesel with 139bhp and a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox, while the Santa Fe Team Wiggins Edition is also announced.

A more powerful version of the top-selling 1.7-litre diesel fitted in the Hyundai Tucson is now available to order, priced from £24,570 in SE trim.

Output has increased from 114bhp to 139bhp and it’s also fitted exclusively with a seven-speed dual clutch DCT automatic gearbox. Acceleration from 0-62mph drops from 13.7 seconds to 11.5 seconds, aided by 340Nm of torque (up from 280Nm).

More importantly, it makes it the most frugal automatic Tucson, with claimed economy figures of 57.6mpg and emissions of 129g/km of CO2, partly helped by standard ISG stop and start technology.

Previously, the greenest automatic Tucson was the 2.0-litre diesel with 134bhp, which could return 47mpg and emits 160g/km of CO2. However, it’s important to note the new 1.7-litre DCT-equipped car is only available with front-wheel drive, while 2.0-litre diesel automatics are four-wheel drive.

Hyundai Santa Fe Team Wiggins Edition

In other Hyundai news, a Santa Fe Team Wiggins Edition has been launched to celebrate Hyundai’s partnership with Sir Bradley Wiggins’ cycling team.

With production limited to 500 examples, the Premium SE-based Santa Fe will get subtle badges, along with side running bars and unique 19-inch alloy wheels. Impressively, the Wiggins Edition will cost £35,995 which is actually £705 less than the standard model, while the automatic will be £38,295.

Team Wiggins fleet used two Santa Fe SUVs, two i40 Tourers and an iLoad van during the 2016 season, including for the Tour of Britain.
