If Donald Trump was a car, he’d be a Cadillac Escalade

The upcoming US presidential race will be weighing heavy on the minds of many in the upcoming few weeks, but what does the candidate you support say about your choice of car?

That’s exactly what a recent poll conducted by lease transfer company Swapalease aimed to find out by questioning 2,500 voters on what type of car they thought best suited their political preferences.

Democrats are most likely to choose a Tesla as their car, the survey found, while the number one choice for Republican voters was the iconic Chevrolet Corvette.

A significant majority of the poll’s respondents identified themselves as Republicans, and other favourite cars of Republican voters included trucks like the Ford F-150 and the Hummer.

Can the way you vote influence the car you drive?

Interestingly, Swapalease also asked respondents what car they thought the two presidential candidates were most like. Donald Trump, they said, was likely to be Cadillac Escalade, while Hillary Clinton was a Mercedes-Benz GL Class.

Most of those polled by Swapalease said that they’d be voting for Trump next month, while, amusingly, respondents likened the “personality” of this year’s election to that of a driverless car.

Needless to say, the survey was neither the most conclusive nor scientifically accurate, but previous research has shown a strong correlation between choice of car and voting preference.

A similar poll published by Car Talk back in February found that Trump voters were most likely to choose pickup trucks from the likes of Dodge, while electric car drivers are more likely to vote Democrat.
