INFINITI marks Renault F1 partnership with Q60 Black S concept

Is this one of the most badass concept cars ever made? INFINITI has revealed the new Q60 Project Black S which is set to use F1-style hybrid technology in the future.

For the 2017 Formula 1 season, INFINITI are entering a technical partnership with Renault’s F1 team. To celebrate this, INFINITI has decided to make a menacing concept based on its latest Q60 coupe.

It’s called the Q60 Project Black S and it’s a hardcore performance coupe featuring more menacing and aerodynamic bodywork than a regular Q60. The car’s exterior makes extensive use of matte grey paint and dark light clusters to help achieve INFINITI’s aim of making the car appear more aggressive but still tasteful at the same time.

INFINITI, which is overseen by the Renault-Nissan Alliance, has been assisting the Renault Formula 1 team with its development of the energy recovery system (ERS) in their race cars this year. The ERS system collects energy during braking and from the heat of the exhausts. This is converted to electrical energy stored in the battery pack, which can then be used to give the race car a performance boost.

The Q60 Black S, based on the range-topping, four-wheel drive version of the coupe, currently uses the same 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine as the regular model.

But INFINITI plans to implement an F1-style ERS system for the Q60 Black S in the future. With the boost from ERS, it’s anticipated the Infiniti Q60 Black S will have an increased output of around 500bhp – about 100bhp more than the regular V6-run Q60. This will cut the 0-62mph sprint time down to well below five seconds.

Members of the public will get the chance to see the car in the metal and learn more details about the Q60 Project Black S when it’s presented next week at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
