Jaguar designs wearable key as extreme as your lifestyle

Jaguar has entered the wearable technology market with a new wristband key for its F-PACE crossover, which allows drivers to pursue active lifestyles without the worry of losing their keys.

Jaguar has taken a unique approach to the wearable technology phenomenon with an optional wearable key that’s available with the new F-PACE crossover.

Jaguar Land Rover has been making bold moves in the biometrics and wearable tech front in the past few years, and its new waterproof Activity Key wristband is its latest innovation.

The idea is that if you’re an active and dynamic F-PACE owner, you can hop off to your local surf spot or ski slope without having to worry about bulky car keys getting lost or harshing your buzz.

Drivers can leave their keys inside the car and then touch their wristband against the Jaguar badge on the boot, which allows the wristband to assume control of the locking system via an RFID sensor.

Compatible with Apple Watch

The wristband then renders the keys inside useless, so if somebody breaks into the F-PACE they won’t be able to start it, and can operate in all temperatures and climates, Jaguar says.

One of the more novel approaches to wearable tech, the wristband can also pair with an Apple Watch app, which allows you to honk the horn, unlock the car and pre-set air conditioning remotely.

Although the Activity Key mightn’t be a solution for the masses, it’s hoped that keen cyclists, runners and other active people, the exact target market that Jaguar expects will buy the F-PACE, will find it handy.

The waterproof Activity Key is available as part of the £878 sporting pack that’s available as an optional extra for the F-PACE. Though the key is exclusive to the model it’s expected that similar features could be rolled out to other Jaguar Land Rover cars soon.
