Jaguar F-PACE appears at Tour de France

A prototype version of Jaguar's upcoming crossover model has been put through its paces in public during this year's Tour de France.

Jaguar has given by far its clearest hint yet regarding the looks of its all-new F-PACE crossover, as a prototype version has appeared in public during this year’s Tour de France.

Due to go on sale in 2016, the F-PACE represents Jaguar’s first ever entry intro the competitive crossover segment.

While prototype versions of it have been spotted before out in public or on race tracks, those particular examples wore heavy disguises that gave virtually nothing away regards its production design.

However, during this year’s Tour de France, a prototype F-PACE has been providing support to the Team Sky riders, transporting supplies across the various routes of the race. As a result, the prototype has been seen in the metal by not just the crowd at the Tour de France races, but also watchers of the TV and online coverage.

While this prototype is covered in a wrap, inspired by the Team Sky colours, the disguise is wafer thin compared to what has been used previously by Jaguar. This is our best indication yet of the final design of the crossover.

The Jaguar F-PACE will get its official full reveal this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Details on specifications and pricing remain scarce, but online reports indicate that the Jaguar will start from about £30,000. Engines could a line-up of four-cylinder and six-cylinder diesel and petrol engines, as well as a supercharged V8 – all in similar vain to current Jaguars on sale.

When it launches next year, the Jaguar F-PACE will rival the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan.
