Jaguar Land Rover is bringing back the original Range Rover exactly as it was

Jaguar Land Rover Classic is bringing back the original 1970 Range Rover, built in limited numbers to original specs and using original factory parts.

Jaguar Land Rover’s Classic division has been responsible for some amazing projects in the past few years, from its reproduction of the classic Lightweight E-Type to the Series I Land Rover.

Now, it’s the turn of the original Range Rover from 1970, which will be faithfully restored by Land Rover in limited numbers, with only ten models earmarked to be made.

The first will be on display at the upcoming Salon Rétromobile show in Paris next week, and has been restored to original factory specification using leftover original parts.

Finished in classic 70s Bahama Gold paintwork, the restored Rangie is even powered by its original 3.5-litre V8 engine, which has been rebuilt along with the car’s four-speed manual gearbox.

Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic’s director, said: “It underscores our commitment to nurturing the rich heritage of Land Rover, and is a rare opportunity for customers to own a valuable and genuinely collectible automotive icon.

“It is a wonderful way to preserve the much sought after three-door original Range Rover from the 1970s, from period-correct colour ways to interior trim and accessories.”

Prices for your very own Range Rover restoration will start from £135,000, though buyers will have to source and supply their own base vehicle, with JLR giving them advice on the most suitable cars.

Strictly one for the enthusiasts then, but when you consider each of the Lightweight E-Type reproductions sold for over £1 million it starts to look like a bit of a bargain.
