Japanese and Korean manufacturers dominate satisfaction survey

Honda tops the list, which also sees MG come second and Jaguar has a respectable joint-ninth placed finish

Honda has come out on top of the What Car? customer satisfaction survey, with MG finishing second and Lexus coming third.

The British publication asked more than 8,300 motorists about their most recent service on their vehicle, and out of the top ten manufacturers four were Japanese and three came from South Korea.

Japanese brand Honda scored an overall rating of 91.2 per cent by scoring well in both new and used car categories as well as offering excellent customer service.

What Car? editor Steve Huntingford said: “Getting your car serviced can be a stressful time, depending on the level of customer service you receive, the quality of the work carried out and, of course, how much of a dent it makes in your wallet.

“Almost 90 per cent of drivers get their cars serviced at franchised dealerships during the first year of ownership, making servicing satisfaction a significant consideration when purchasing a new car.

“Honda dealers clearly understand this,” Huntingford added, “because they score well in every area. And while the level of satisfaction with many brands plummets as cars age, Honda owners can expect attentive behaviour from staff and a high standard of workmanship throughout their cars' lives."

Both Chinese-owned MG and Japanese-run Lexus scored more than 90 per cent to round out the podium, while fellow Japanese brands Subaru and Toyota were also in the top 10.

Korean brands Hyundai, Ssangyong and Kia finished fourth, sixth and eighth respectively, Renault-owned Dacia came fifth and Jaguar finished joint ninth with Toyota.

The manufacturers were scored on their staff’s politeness, quality of work and value for money.
