Jeep launches new Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid as firm’s first electrified model

The hybrid crossover will be able to travel for 26 miles on electricity

Jeep has announced further details about its new Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid ahead of the model’s imminent arrival in showrooms.

This new model is Jeep’s first electrified model to be sold in the UK, and mates the existing 1.3-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and 11.4kWh battery to produce either 187bhp or 237bhp in flagship form.

A 26-mile electric range is promised, which allows for sub-50g/km CO2 emissions and a claimed fuel economy figure of 124mpg. It will also be the fastest Renegade yet, as it’s able to reach 60mph in 7.3 seconds.

Despite being electrified, though, Jeep hasn’t forgotten about its off-road pedigree, with the plug-in hybrid coming with four-wheel-drive to tackle rugged terrain, along with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

It’s separated from regular petrol and diesel Renegades by its blue design cues, along with the charging cover on the left side of the car. These 4xe versions also come with a new ‘Sport’ driving mode on the Selec-Terrain settings system, alongside modes such as ‘Rock’, ‘Mud and Sand’ and ‘Snow’.

The Renegade 4xe will be available in three trim levels – Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. The first two grades come with 187bhp, but the more rugged Trailhawk version sees the power increase to 237bhp thanks to a more powerful engine.

Prices start from £32,600 and rise to £36,500, with first deliveries expected in September.
