Jeep set to unveil new electric Wrangler

The rugged model is already available with a plug-in hybrid setup

Jeep is set to expand its range of electrified models with a new electric version of its iconic Wrangler.

The American 4x4 firm has already taken a big step into the electrified market, with its Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid already available in showrooms. The same PHEV setup is set to be available in the larger Compass shortly, too, while Jeep recently revealed a hybrid version of the Wrangler in the US, though it’s not yet clear whether this will be brought over to the UK.

But Jeep now looks to be making the big step into a full electric model with the Wrangler. While only teased in concept guise, the firm has signalled the EV 4x4 is on the way, and even highlighted the powertrain that will be used.

Pictured on a rocky canyon, Jeep looks to show that the model is no less capable off-road than the standard model, while a new illuminated front end light bar spans from the headlights through the firm’s iconic seven-slot grille.

No details of the model have been confirmed, with the model only being shown as part of the brand’s ‘The Road Ahead’ campaign that signals its aims for electric and hybrid-powered models..

Further details of the new electric Wrangler are expected shortly, with the concept set to be revealed at the ‘Easter Jeep Safari’ in Moab, Utah, which kicks off from March 27.
