Kia adds turbocharged engine to Picanto range

The new unit will be available on the sportier GT-Line and GT-Line S models, and will be employed as a rival for other warm city cars.

Kia has introduced a turbocharged petrol engine to its Picanto range, which will be the city car’s most powerful iteration yet.

The new engine produces 99bhp and 171Nm of torque, and can be fitted to the GT-Line and GT-Line S models – sitting above the two naturally-aspirated petrol engines already on offer.

With this engine fitted, the featherweight city car can get from 0-60mph in 9.8 seconds and go on to a top speed of 112mph – similar figures to the rivalling Volkswagen Up! TSI and Renault Twingo GT.

Complying with the latest Euro 6d emissions regulations, this version of the Picanto can return 55.4mpg and 117g/km CO2.

In the shape of the GT-Line and GT-Line S, the Picanto comes with sportier detailing, red highlights to both the interior and exterior, a rear diffuser and twin exhausts – with the S version adding an electric sunroof, climate control, heated front seats, TomTom satellite navigation and a wireless phone charger.
