Kia Ceed crossover teased

The South Korean brand has announced that an SUV-styled version of its popular hatchback will be introduced later this year.

Kia has revealed that it will release a crossover version of the Ceed hatchback by the end of 2019.

Now in its third generation, the current Ceed range currently comprises of the standard hatch, the Sportswagon estate and the sporty ProCeed, and the addition of a crossover would near enough complete the model’s range.

With market trends continually pointing towards crossovers and SUVs, Kia is looking to further capitalise on the market – with this crossover joining the likes of the Sportage, Stonic and Sorento in brand’s crossover and SUV line-up.

The model’s official name is yet to be revealed.

Gregory Guillaume, Kia Motors Europe vice president of design, said: “There’s another style, another type of vehicle, that we feel very strongly deserves to be a new member of the Ceed family.

“It will the play the role that’s needed to make the Ceed range stronger and even more exciting, more appealing, to European consumers. The design will be nothing like you’ve seen in the Ceed family so far. This will be the next big surprise from Kia.”

Prices for the current Ceed range start from £18,925, so expect the crossover version to start around that or close to the Sportswagon’s starting point of £19,925.
