Kia Cee’d hits one million production landmark

The Kia Cee’d has reached a major production milestone, as the one millionth example of the family car rolled off the production line earlier today.

Kia first started making the Cee’d back in 2006 and the second and current generation version has been in production since 2012. Manufactured and marketed exclusively in Europe, the Kia Cee’d is sold as a five-door hatchback, Cee’d Sportswagon estate and three-door hatch called the Pro_cee’d.

The exact specification of the one millionth Cee’d produced today is a high powered GT five-door hatch model finished in ‘Fusion White’. Kia launched its first performance-enhanced GT model in 2013, via the Pro_cee’d. The five-door Cee’d GT followed in early 2014.

Later this year, Kia is expanding the Cee’d range with the launch of the GT Line version, which will be available for all body styles. The GT Line offers similar style and sportiness to the GT specs but with more versatility thrown in the mix.

The Cee’d GT Line will also mark the debut of Kia’s new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, that’s mated to a new seven-speed double-clutch gearbox. The GT Line is expected to launch near the end of 2015 and prices will be announced closer to its launch.

Pricing for the Kia Cee’d range currently starts at £14,305 for the five-door hatch, £15,650 for the Sportswagon and £14,150 for the Pro_cee’d.
