Kia is expanding the line-up of its popular e-Niro electric car with a more affordable battery option.
Up until now, the e-Niro has only been available with a single 64kWh battery pack, which allows for an impressive range of 282 miles, and in just one trim level.
But as with its sister car – the Hyundai Kona Electric – the e-Niro is now available with a smaller 39kWh battery option, which allows for a range of 180 miles. It also comes with a smaller electric motor – producing 136bhp and 395Nm of torque, next to the 64kWh option’s 201bhp. In terms of performance, this new e-Niro variant can accelerate to 60mph in 9.5 seconds – two seconds slower than the top-spec model.
The trim level line-up has also been extended, with the new range including ‘2’, ‘3’ and ‘4+’ options.
The ‘2’ is exclusive to the new 39kWh battery pack and comes with keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, a digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control and an eight-inch touchscreen.
Both ‘3’ and ‘4+’ are just available on the larger 64kWh battery version, with the ‘3’ adding leather upholstery, heated front seats and a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen.
At the top of the range is the ‘4+’, which adds LED headlights, a JBL sound system and a larger 11kW on-board charger – something that allows for quicker charging times.
Prices for the 39kWh e-Niro start from £29,595, with the ‘3’ and ‘4+’ models available from £33,850 and £36,145 respectively, with these prices including the government’s £3,000 plug-in car grant. The refreshed line-up is on sale now.
