The Kia Stonic goes on sale today, with prices for the small SUV starting from £16,295.
As the South Korean brand’s first foray into the B segment, the Stonic is based on the Rio hatchback and comes in two trim levels from launch – 2 and First Edition.
Kia predicts that sales in the small SUV market will double by 2020 to 2.2million as people move on from superminis, small hatchbacks and small MPVs, and hopes to capitalise on that growth with the Stonic.
The model was originally built for sale in Europe, but after getting good reception in South Korea, the Stonic will be on sale there too.
All versions of the Stonic come with a good amount of features, including 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth with music streaming, automatic headlight control and LED daytime running lights. Other standard features include 60/40 split rear seats, a multi-functional steering wheel and a six-speaker audio system.
Models also come with a seven-inch display, which is upgraded to a touchscreen version in the First Edition trim.
First Edition models have a two-tone exterior, with options for black, lime green, red or orange available. Automatic air conditioning, LED rear lights, privacy glass and heated front seats are also included.
Customers get the choice of two petrol units and one diesel engine, with the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol offering the most power with 118bhp.
First Edition models get safety systems including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, driver attention warning and blind spot detection with rear cross traffic alert. Grade 2 models can get those systems with the optional Advanced Driving Assistance Pack.
Prices for the Stonic start from £16,295, with First Edition versions priced from £19,695.
