Kia will unveil new GT sports car on January 8th

The much-anticipated Kia GT sports car, the first proper performance car from the Korean brand, will officially debut early next year on January 8th.

Kia’s much-anticipated GT, the first proper sports car from the Korean manufacturer, will officially be unveiled on January 8th.

Very little is known so far about the car, but according to leaked pictures and information from Kia insiders it’ll be rear-wheel drive, have four doors and make up to 400bhp.

A teaser video released by Kia shows the car during testing at the Nurburgring, and with the car shown to be hitting speeds of more than 150mph it’s clear Kia’s taking its first performance car seriously.

First hinted at all the way back in 2011, it’s only very recently that prototype versions of the GT have been spotted in testing.

Heading up the project is Albert Biermann, formerly head of BMW’s M Division, who said earlier this year that the Kia GT will be Kia’s “most powerful car in Europe by far”.

Currently, Kia sells a 420bhp V8-powered saloon in the US called the K900, and it’s possible that the GT will have a similar output from either the same engine, or something similar.

There’s also rumoured to be a less powerful diesel option in the range, which won’t be as quick but which could appeal more to buyers who want a sporty saloon without high running costs.

In any case, we’ll find out more information when the new Kia GT is unveiled in full early next year.
