Koenigsegg Agera RS smashes 0-249-0 record

The Swedish hypercar beat the Bugatti Chiron by five seconds at a speed run in Denmark.

The Koegnisegg Agera RS has beaten the 0-249mph-0 record time by five seconds, completing the feat in less than 2.5km.

The Agera RS beat the Bugatti Chiron’s time that was set less than a month ago, with Swedish test driver Niklas Lilja taking control of the car at the Vandel airfield in Denmark.

Lilja was able to get from 0-249mph in 26.88 seconds, and was then able to brake to 0mph in 9.56 seconds and 433 metres. The whole record run was completed in 2,441 metres.

This appears to be the start of a battle between the small group of hypercar manufacturers to get the fastest accelerating car, as we expect to see American carmaker Hennessey do something similar next year.

The Agera RS has a near 1:1 power-to-weight ratio with a curb weight of 1,395kg and a power output of 1160bhp produced from its 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

Koenigsegg’s founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg said: “It makes me so proud, so happy and excited to see what we have achieved as a team with the Agera RS. A result like this does not just happen.

“It may have only taken a few hours of driving to complete this run, but we cannot overlook all of the work that went into creating the car in the first place. Building these cars takes everything we have. We give it our all, every day of every week. Without this commitment to excellence, we would not be worthy of either the result or the reward.

“Special thanks must go to our driver, Niklas Lilja, for the steely determination he showed at the wheel to turn something that we knew was a distinct possibility into a concrete reality.”
