LaFerrari Spider convertible will be made

It has been confirmed that Ferrari will make a convertible Spider version of its LaFerrari hypercar.

Rumours spread earlier this year that the Italian supercar maker were developing a convertible version of its million-pound flagship model. So far, the LaFerrari has only been available in hardtop coupe form and a production run of just 499 units ended last year.

There were even reports that customers would be shown the convertible LaFerrari Spider soon, and now the reports have been confirmed by the Ferrari company chairman and Fiat Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne.

Speaking to Automobile Mag earlier this week, Marchionne addressed a question about future product plans, saying: “The only future product connected to LaFerrari is the Spider. Which is no secret since potential customers have already been approached.”

Exact details of the La Ferrari convertible have yet to be confirmed, but it is rumoured that this car could be called LaFerrarina instead of LaFerrari Spider which many may assume.

Other reports suggest the LaFerrari convertible will be even rarer than its coupe counterpart, with possibly just 50 being made. The new convertible will in all likelihood use the same powertrain as the LaFerrari coupe, which combined a 6.3-litre V12 with an electric motor to produce a total of 950bhp.

Changes to the chassis and set-up of the car will likely be made to better suit a convertible, but a 0-62mph sprint time of under three seconds is also possible.
