Lamborghini unveils rear-wheel drive Huracan

Lamborghini has unveiled a new lighter, less powerful but no less stunning version of its Huracan hypercar, the Huracan LP 580-2.

Like the special edition rear-drive Gallardo LP 550-2 from 2009, the LP 580-2 trades in the standard all-wheel drive of the regular Huracan for a new rear-wheel drive setup and dynamic new looks.

On the surface, the Huracan LP 580-2 is markedly different from its four-wheel drive stablemate, with large, redesigned front air intakes and a new fixed rear spoiler lip.

Riding on 19-inch Kari alloy wheels, it also comes with steel brakes specially contoured to reduce weight and improve cooling, along with exclusive Pirelli P Zero tyres specifically designed for the car.

Power comes courtesy of the same naturally-aspirated, mid-mounted 5.2-litre V10 engine as the four-wheel drive Huracan, which has been slightly detuned to provide a maximum 572bhp.

Despite being a smidgeon less powerful than its 602bhp bigger brother, it boasts a meaty 540Nm of torque, with 75 per cent of its maximum power delivery available from only 1,000rpm.

Thanks to the rear-wheel drive setup and its carbon fibre/aluminium-intensive construction, it’s also 33kg lighter than the more powerful version, increasing its power to weight ratio significantly.

Equipped with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox, it’s capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in a stupidly quick 3.4 seconds, with a 199mph top speed that’s just a fraction off the more powerful version’s limit.

However, Lamborghini stresses that this model is more about the feeling than the numbers, with steering and chassis setup engineered specifically for a tail-happy, fun-to-drive feeling.

Available in a full range of Lamborghini’s signature retina-searing colour swatches, it also comes complete with a 12.3-inch touchscreen TFT instrument panel and a driving mode selector.

The new Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2 is available to order from Lamborghini dealerships now, with a suggested retail price that kicks off at approximately £105,169.
