The Classic model is being assembled in the famous London shop, with the chassis having to be rolled in through a first-floor window.

Land Rover has begun the assembly of a one-off Defender Works V8 on the first floor of Selfridges in London.

The classic off-roader will be the centrepiece of the menswear section at the famous department store, which is opening for the Christmas season on October 29.

With the car being assembled on site, Land Rover Classic had to wheel the chassis in through a first-floor window and is being reassembled in the sight of passers-by over the next four days.

The Selfridges Edition model is a restored 2016 Defender 110 Pick Up, but Land Rover Classic has converted it into a 110 Soft Top. The bonnet is finished in Selfridges yellow, while the rest of the bodywork is Bronze Green.

Under the bonnet is the 400bhp Land Rover Works V8, which is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Uprated brakes and suspension are also fitted.

The folding windscreen is in-line with the model’s past versions, with the interior is finished in chocolate-coloured leather and ivory stitching. The cockpit will also be fitted with the Jaguar Land Rover Classic infotainment setup, which uses modern technology but with a retro finish.

“The Selfridges Edition shows what can be achieved and we can’t wait to see it take pride of place in the famous department store.”
