Land Rover Discovery Sport adds Ingenium engine

The new Land Rover Discovery Sport has swapped its single engine choice, a 2.2-litre diesel, for a new 2.0-litre Ingenium engine which offers strong performance and efficiency.

The all-new Discovery Sport SUV is now available to order with the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine from Jaguar Land Rover. It replaces the 2.2-litre diesel offered for this car up until now.

The new diesel engine, which will be the first launched under the Ingenium brand name, will also be offered for the upcoming Jaguar XE saloon.

Orders for the Discovery Sport with the Ingenium engines start now and first customer deliveries will take place this September.

This new engine aims to combine class-leading torque and power outputs with a high standard of frugality, refinement and low emissions. The starting price for the Land Rover Discovery Sport is now set at £30,695, which is £1,670 less compared to what it was when the SUV was offered with the 2.2-litre diesel.

In the Discovery Sport, the Ingenium diesel will offer two outputs, 148bhp and 178bhp. A six-speed manual transmission is mated to the Ingenium engine as standard, but the 178bhp can alternatively be hooked up to a nine-speed automatic gearbox instead.

The 178bhp version of the Discovery Sport is also the only one to offer the option of a 5+2 seater layout rather than just five seats as standard. All models using the new diesel engine will feature four-wheel drive as standard.

Land Rover’s Discovery Sport is at its most frugal when using the new 148bhp unit, where it records a combined fuel economy of 57.7mpg and CO2 emissions of just 129g/km.

With the more potent 178bhp output, efficiency is reduced but not by much. With either the manual or automatic gearbox, it returns 53.3mpg combined and a CO2 output of 139g/km.

Land Rover has also announced a new range-topping trim level for its Discovery Sport, called HSE Black. It sits above the four existing trims which include SE, SE Tech, HSE and HSE Luxury.

The new HSE Black trim, priced from £41,250, has all the same features as other HSE models and brings in privacy glass and the styling-focused Black Pack as standard.
