Lexus has revealed its first seven-seat model to be sold in Europe, based on its top-end SUV model.

Called the RX L, it builds on the base set by the RX but adds a third row of seats and a longer body to accommodate more interior space.

Accessible by pulling a lever on the second row of seats, the rear seating section has meant the body shape of the RX has been revised slightly to allow for more head room, and the second row has been set slightly higher to offer more leg room.

The rear seats also can be folded down using the power fold function, and the boot area is also accessible by a power-folding tailgate.

The RX L maintains the same fascia and overall design of the standard model, but with the added 11cm at the back Lexus has added black detailing to create a floating roof effect.

Powering the RX L in Western Europe is a self-charging petrol-hybrid system with a 3.5-litre V6 paired to two electric motors, which produces 308bhp and is driven through all four wheels via CVT gearbox.

Standard equipment includes leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, an eight-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a 12-speaker surround sound system.

The RX L is also available with plenty of standard safety equipment, including pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane keeping assist, automatic high beam and dynamic cruise control.

Both prices and full specifications will be revealed closer to the model’s release in May.
