London Motor Show: McLaren 570GT presented in London

McLaren’s latest supercar, the 570GT, has made its UK public debut at the 2016 London Motor Show.

This car joins McLaren’s Sports Series line-up of products alongside the more entry-level 540C and the 570S. The 570GT will launch as a coupe this July, priced from £154,000. A convertible version is likely to follow sometime in 2017.

The 570GT is essentially a more practical version of the 570S. It is aimed at those attracted by McLaren’s advanced driving technology and immense performance figures, but want some more everyday usability added to their driving experience than you get from most supercars.

Therefore, the new McLaren 570GT sports a ‘Touring Deck’ which is an extra storage space found behind the seats and accessed via a small glass hatch on the side of the car’s exterior. With the Touring Deck, total load capacity is now 370 litres, whereas a 570S offers just 150 litres at the front.

While the 570GT is not as quick as other current McLarens, the performance figures are still eye-catching. Using the same 3.8-litre twin-turbo petrol engine as the 570S, the new 570GT offers 562bhp and the 0-62mph sprint time is just 3.4 seconds. The top speed is unchanged at 204mph.

The suspension and steering of the 570GT is adjusted so far that while it sacrifices some of the sharpness the 570S, it is more comfortable and relaxing for drivers.
