Maserati gives first glimpse of new electric GranTurismo sports car

Maserati has revealed the first official teaser pictures of its upcoming electric GranTurismo sports car.

The model, which was widely known for its V8 engine in its previous iteration, is set to represent a huge switch for the Italian firm by becoming electric - with no petrol option planned. It will be the first model from the firm to be launched purely as an EV.

Though not set to arrive until next year, Maserati has given us a first look at the new car with a series of new pictures of the model wearing heavy camouflage. It looks to adopt a similar silhouette as before, with a swoopy shape and elongated bonnet. Maserati’s familiar wide grille with the firm’s ‘Trident’ badge will also remain.

Photographed just outside Maserati’s Innovation Lab in Modena, Italy, Maserati has said that ‘prototype cars are currently undergoing a period of intensive road and circuit testing to acquire vital data for the preparation of the final setup’.

Maserati has a busy few years in the pipeline, with the brand launching its MC20 supercar this year as its first brand-new model in years. It’s also gearing up to launch the Grecale SUV – a new smaller model that will sit beneath the firm’s Levante. Due to arrive in 2022, the Grecale is set to be key in driving Maserati’s growth.
