Mazda to debut CX-4 coupe at Beijing

Mazda is building up anticipation for its next SUV, the CX-4, ahead of its public debut.

Mazda has released a teaser image for its all-new CX-4, a coupe-style SUV model that will make its public debut next month at the Beijing Motor Show.

As the name suggests, the Mazda CX-4 (seen in the teaser image above) will sit between the existing CX-3 and CX-5 in Mazda’s SUV line-up. While the CX-4 will share its underpinning with the CX-5, it’ll also reportedly be heavily inspired by the Mazda KOERU concept which was shown at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show last September.

Based on a concept

The KOERU (seen in the image below) was noted for its arched rear back, so the CX-4 could be seen as a rival to stylish family cars like the DS 4 and the upcoming Audi Q2.

Though it’s likely to have a sleeker, less SUV-esque design than the CX-5, the new CX-4 is expected to share the same wheelbase as its fellow Mazda and will have a pretty much identical overall length. The CX-4 is also likely to share some of the engines from the CX-5, including the turbocharged four-cylinder diesel and petrol units. A choice of front- or four-wheel drive powertrains are likely to be available too.

Other details about the Mazda CX-4 are currently scarce, but it will likely go on sale in Britain during 2017 and pricing could start from around £20,000.

Such a price would appropriately slot it in between the CX-3, which currently starts from £17,595, and the CX-5, which starts at £23,195.
