McLaren P1 production ended

McLaren has announced that the 375th and final example of its P1 hypercar has been built. That means the end of a production run which started back during the summer of 2013.

According to McLaren, every example of the P1 was sold before deliveries even got underway. The last P1 is finished in a pearlescent orange paint job and is ready to be delivered to its patient buyer.

While the official list price of the P1 is set at £866,000, McLaren says that three out of every four P1s were customised by McLaren’s Special Operations (MSO) division upon the request of owners. MSO tend to add more bespoke details, such as extra carbon-fibre trim for the interior, which ultimately pushes the price of the car to over £1 million.

The P1, which sat as the flagship of McLaren’s car range, wowed the public when it was first announced thanks to its Formula 1-inspired aerodynamics and petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which boasts 903bhp.

A rival to the LaFerrari and Porsche 918, two other hybrid supercars, the McLaren P1 performance figures also made for mesmerising reading. The McLaren has a zero to 62mph sprint time of just 2.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 217mph.

Unlike most supercars, however, the P1 had an official combined fuel figure just above 30mpg and CO2 emissions below 200g/km (194g/km to be exact), thanks to the car’s sophisticated hybrid tech.

Up until now, McLaren has given no indication that it may extend the production run of the P1 and no successor for the hypercar has been announced. The P1 has so far been the only road car to be offered in McLaren’s Ultimate Series, which sits above the Super and Sports Series line-ups that feature the likes of the McLaren 650S and 570S.
