Mercedes adds two diesel units to A-Class line-up

The 200 d and 220 d options will offer similar efficiency to the smaller 180 d while developing more power and improved performance.

Mercedes has introduced two new diesel engines to the A-Class that will also feature on the B-Class MPV.

Both the new 200 d and 220 d units comply with the latest Euro-6D Temp regulations, with the smaller unit 200 d available on both the Sport and AMG Line trim levels. The 220 d is only fitted to the AMG Line model.

The 200 d comprises of a four-cylinder 2.0-litre that develops 148bhp and 320Nm of torque – allowing the A-Class to get from 0-60mph in 7.9 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 137mph. To help with running costs, it can achieve a quoted 67.3mpg and emit 110g/km CO2.

For the 220 d, its four-cylinder 2.0-litre unit develops 188bhp and 400Nm of torque, with Mercedes claiming it can get to 60mph in 6.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 146mph. Despite being the most powerful diesel offering, it can still achieve 65.7mpg and emit 114g/km CO2.

Both units are paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
