Mercedes-AMG confirms name of upcoming hypercar

After the pre-production Project One was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, the German brand has announced the model’s name.

Mercedes-AMG has announced that its forthcoming hypercar will be called the ‘One’.

The One combines the brand’s know-how in Formula One and its knowledge in creating excellent performance models to make one of the fastest road cars.

The show car was first revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and the production model will be fitted with a petrol-hybrid powertrain from the company’s Formula One department and active aerodynamics to help utilise that power.

Even though the petrol engine used is just a 1.6-litre V6, it uses electronically-assisted turbocharging – and alongside electric power, the powertrain develops upwards of 987bhp sent through an eight-speed manual transmission. The quoted top speed will be in excess of 217mph.

The One will employ active aerodynamics that are currently being tested in the brand’s wind tunnel, with the rear wing able to be deployed in two positions to create extreme levels of downforce in race mode.

Prospective customers of the One will be able to access ‘The Future of Driving Performance’ mobile showroom, which will give them a comprehensive insight into the model, including equipment demonstrations and material samples.

The model will be on display at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, which opens to the public on October 4.
