Mercedes SLC convertible revealed

The Mercedes SLC, a two-door roadster and replacement for the SLK, has been revealed to the public before orders start in January and deliveries take place in April.

Compared to the latest SLK, the SLC is not technically an all-new model but instead introduces a facelift to the Mercedes convertible. The new name, SLC, is part of Mercedes latest naming strategy which sees the convertible join up with the rest of the ‘C’ product range that includes the C-Class and the GLC SUV.

Like this car has done while called the SLK, the SLC sits below the larger SL in Mercedes convertible line-up.

Design updates the SLC has as part of the facelift include sleeker headlights, a redesigned grille, larger air intakes and redesigned bumpers. A lot of changes have also been made to the interior, which now features an all-new steering wheel and aluminium trim detailing.

There’s also new leather trim and colour options for the seats, while standard kit includes sat-nav, Bluetooth connectivity and internet radio. Media features and more can be accessed via the SLC’s seven-inch touchscreen.

Engines for the SLC range include a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol which produces 181bhp for the SLC 200 specification or 242bhp for the 300 model.

The 250d model, meanwhile, has a 2.1-litre diesel that delivers 201bhp and the best average fuel economy in the range, which is officially 64.2mpg. All of these models in the SLC range can cover the zero to 62mph sprint in just under seven seconds.

Topping the SLC range is the SLC 43 AMG model, which uses a 362bhp twin-turbo V6. This version of the roadster takes just 4.7 seconds to cover the zero to 62mph. This model also has sportier design details such as twin tailpipes, 18-inch alloy wheels and even the steering wheel gets a sportier design. The AMG model also uses a nine-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
