Mercedes unveils updated S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet

The German manufacturer has refreshed its top-end Coupe and Cabriolet

To move in line with the saloon version’s extensive range of safety systems, Mercedes has updated the S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models to be more modern than ever before.

The main changes are on the inside, as Mercedes adds the Widescreen Cockpit concept with two high-definition screens – the latest in the brand’s infotainment systems – as well as new steering wheel designs and updated comfort controls.

Exterior changes include the addition of Organic LED taillights, which have an innovative ‘floating element’ design that looks extra modern, and newly-designed alloy wheels that accompany AMG Line specification cars.

AMG Line models also have a more dynamic design on the front end, with restyled side skirts, new front and rear aprons, and larger front inlets that include two chrome fins to help channel the air.

Mercedes has also replaced the S 500 model with the S 560, as it has replaced the 4.7-litre V8 with a smaller 4.0-litre V8 that produces 462bhp. This new unit has cut fuel consumption by eight per cent.

As the S-Class saloon is known to be one of the most advanced cars on the road, it was only fitting that the Coupe and Cabriolet versions got them too. Mercedes has fitted Active Distance Control and Active Steering Assist, which use the satellite navigation and map to alter the vehicle’s speed and direction.

To help improve ride comfort and control, the Coupe comes with the latest inn Mercedes’s Magic Body Control and Road Surface Scan suspension systems. They use scanners and an improved stereo camera to help keep the car stable at speeds up to 112mph.

Britta Seeger, head of Mercedes-Benz Car Sales at Daimler, said: "With their unmistakable, exclusive design and high-class materials with extremely high value appeal in the interior, the new S-Class Coupé and S-Class Cabriolet embody our interpretation of modern luxury.

“On top of that, both luxury four-seaters feature the latest cutting-edge technology from the S-Class.”
