MG set to launch new electric sports car and hatchback

The brand is set to expand its range of EVs

MG is a brand going from strength-to-strength in the UK, with sales continuing to increase largely thanks to its EVs.

The brand is already targeting for half of its sales to be for electrified models in 2021, with its MG5 and ZS EVs already on sale and proving popular, along with the new HS plug-in hybrid.

But the firm is set to expand its range of electric models with a new sports car and compact hatchback.

Set to grab the headlines will be the new sporting model – a return to the former British brand’s roots. The four-seat two-door model will be MG’s flagship car and is set to be based on the 2017 E-Motion concept. Performance and range of the new model are still unknown, though.

According to Autocar, the new sporting model will come to the UK, and could arrive in showrooms as soon as the end of 2021.

At the other end of the brand’s electric car spectrum will be a new compact hatchback, which Autocar says is expected to be a similar size to the brand’s current petrol-powered MG3 supermini. It could become one of the UK’s most affordable EVs, with a starting price of under £20,000 likely.
