MINI cars depreciate the least in UK, study finds

A recent study has found that cars from MINI depreciate less than any other models from the top brands sold in Britain.

Cars from the MINI brand have been found to retain their value the best out of the 13 top-selling car brands in the UK market.

Research by the used car retailer Carspring calculated the value retention of cars from different brands with an average use of 34,700 miles, usually covered after a few years of ownership. It was found that used MINIs on average lose 46.08 per cent of their value after this much mileage, less compared to other brands studied.

MINIs narrowly beat Audi cars, which were found to lose 47.33 per cent of their value after the same average mileage.

Completing the top five in the study are cars from Volkswagen, Lexus and Ford, which lose 47.51 per cent, 51.59 per cent and 53.49 per cent of their value on average respectively.

In contrast, the cars found to suffer the biggest drop in value are those from Toyota, which have average devaluation of 74.59 per cent. Near the bottom too are Peugeot (70.19 per cent) and Honda (65.94 per cent).

The research took in data from hundreds of online used car marketplaces as well as traditional dealers in five of the UK’s biggest cities. The value of used cars from different nations was also compared and it was found that the UK is the second most affordable country in the world to buy a used car.

On average, after 34,700 miles covered, used cars in Britain lose 51.9 per cent of their original value. That amount of devaluation is more than used cars experience in any other country in the world except New Zealand.
